Las Vegas, Feb 08: Konrad Thurano, who was born almost a century ago in 1909, has entertained audiences around the world. He spent several years performing in South Africa, the Middle East and America. He worked in Las Vegas with the legendary Sammy Davis Jr., met Charlie Rivel and Charlie Chaplin, and performed with Bing Crosby.

At the age of 96, most people would be, well, taking it easy. Definitely not doing pull-ups on the high wire on one finger!

Konrad Thurano is the world's oldest circus performer – his mementoes show an adventurous career. The circus is his life, he says - he's spent much of his life doing a double act with his son.

Konrad Thurano said, “If you want to do something, do it with love and passion or dont do it at all. If you are forced to do something, there is no love behind it. What if you do even just a small something with love and passion, it will be well received."

Even after he retires in a few weeks' time, he wants to return as a freelance.

As they say, it's in the blood.

A study of 27,000 people aged 40 to 80 in 29 countries also found couples with greater equality in western Europe were more likely to enjoy their sex lives.

Mediterranean diet 'reduces dementia risk'

Eating a "Mediterranean-style" healthy diet significantly reduces the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, a study has suggested.

US researchers looked at the diet and health of 2,200 people over four years.

The more people kept to a Mediterranean diet, the less likely they were to develop Alzheimer's, according to the Annals of Neurology study.

In 2002 the World Health Organisation reported male life expectancy exceeded that of women in only six countries.

Elderly give hotel new lease of life

The hotel near Interlaken has discovered a new, growing market: elderly people in need of care. It could be a solution for some of the other hundreds of hotels expected to slip into extinction over the next few years.

A video camera captured a 63-year-old patient from Kaiser Permanente’s Bellflower hospital being dumped in a downtown area known as skid row, dressed only in a hospital gown and slippers.

A camera mounted outside the Union Rescue Mission shows Carol Ann Reyes, 63, of Gardena, Ca.,,a homeless person, walking from the direction of a taxi which had just driven away. California man retires at age 100

A Los Angeles man who worked cleaning buses for the Metropolitan Transport Authority for 76 years has finally called it quits on his 100th birthday.

Arthur Winston was only absent for one day during his working life - when his wife died in 1988.

New York - Older women who say talk shows and soap operas are their favourite TV programmes tend to score more poorly on tests of memory, attention and other cognitive skills, researchers reported on Monday.

That doesn't mean that daytime television is a brain drain, they say, since it's not clear that there's a direct relationship between the two.
